Several of our parents have already sent their children to college earlier
this month. Others are on the road as I type this. I spoke yesterday with
one of our fathers who is preparing to drive his daughter to school this weekend
to start her freshman year. It is a bittersweet moment. There is excitement
and joy, coupled with grief and anxiety. We have given our children roots. Now
it is time to allow them to rely on their wings, while we adjust to an empty
spot in the nest.
In Proverbs 22:6 God says, “Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” The Light of Christ
family has worked hard over the past years to train up our children who now are
off to college. Let’s have confidence that God is with them, that we have given
them healthy spiritual roots, and that they will now soar as faithful young
adults. Let’s keep praying for our college students, as we continue to care for
the children and youth still with us. And may we know God’s peace and comfort
as we make our own adjustments.
